Novatech Measurements Ltd offers a superb value manufacturer´s calibration. Our experience of over 40 years of loadcell production has lead to the development of our own economic, practical and sound procedures broadly in line with European Standards.

Prices for basic loadcell calibrations start at £184. Basic Novatech loadmeter or amplifier calibrations cost £96. Please contact our sales department if you would like a quotation for your force calibration requirements.

During loadcell calibration, Novatech checks upon the same performance indicators we use for loadcell manufacture, determining whether the loadcell and calibration is fit for purpose; often an independent calibration house would produce, and certify, calibration data even if the loadcell is not operating to its specification and not fit for purpose.

Novatech offer calibrations for any make or model of loadcell with force measurement ranges from 0.1N to 1000kN (10g to 100tonnef) in both compression and tension. Compression only calibrations can be extended up to 2000kN (200tonnef). All of our in-house calibrations are traceable to European standards and the traceability of our calibration rigs are supported by a continuously updated twenty two page uncertainty evaluation document, available to download from our website. Calibrations are available in most standard force or weight units and some calibrations are even possible at controlled temperatures up to +250°C.

All standard loadcell geometries can be handled by our calibration laboratory including donut, pancake, beam, load pin and loadlink types. We can arrange to manufacture special load fittings in our own machine shop if these are required for accurate calibration. In addition to loadcell calibrations, we can also set-up wireless telemetry, amplifiers and loadmeters to the calibrated outputs from the corresponding loadcells. If the instrumentation is not a model supplied by Novatech, we will need to be supplied with an instruction manual and/or may need to charge a small supplementary fee to cover time taken in familiarising ourselves with the equipment.

Certificates are supplied with all single system calibrations and accurately detail the exact results of that calibration. These provide vital data for future reference and should be kept as a permanent record for your quality system. Certificates are also available for loadcell and instrument system pairings across multiple channels and even parallel connected arrays upon request.

We can turn most calibrations around in a week. If you have problems with losing the equipment for this amount of time a faster turn around is possible if you pre book a date for the calibration. It is always worth talking to us, as we are very flexible and will do our best to meet your requirements.

As a loadcell manufacturer, we can repair most loadcells including loadcells made by other manufacturers (if it is economically viable). All loadcells sent for recalibration with us will first be inspected, free of charge, to ensure that the items are in good working order. If we feel that there is necessary work required in order for calibration to be possible or advisable, we will provide a no obligation quotation and will never proceed with work without approval.

Calibration Traceability

Novatech´s calibration laboratory is, by intention, not UKAS accredited due to the high number of loadcell models, their complexities and variations, and the simple fact that UKAS accreditation and procedures would not be in keeping with our competitive product and recalibration prices.

We do not have an equivalent to UKAS accreditation but do offer complete calibration traceability via our fully traceable calibration laboratory. Each calibration reference is carefully chosen to produce measurement uncertainties in keeping with our loadcell specifications with an industry practice betterment factor of 3 applied to these uncertainties. Our twenty two page uncertainty evaluation document is available to back up our traceability statement that is found upon our sensor and sensor/instrument system calibration certificates. We offer calibrations at a fraction of the UKAS price but minimise the paperwork, ignore the plethora of European standard classifications of error bandwidth and concentrate on our popular loadcell product performance specification based upon simple straight-line mathematics. Novatech specialises in force measurement and we therefore only calibrate force or mass measurement systems here within our factory in the UK. We cannot offer calibrations suitable for `point of sale´ equipment such as counter scales or on-site calibrations.

The precision of our calibration techniques and excellent calibration references means that we can often offer a higher accuracy, that is a lower uncertainty, than many UKAS accredited calibrations.

Calibration Rigs

We have a number of loadcell calibration rigs that all use equipment whose calibration is traceable to European standards. Traceability is maintained by the use of external calibration laboratories and a programme of equipment calibration comparisons carried out in-house.

Deadweight Calibration Rigs

These apply forces to the loadcell being calibrated using accurate weights. The output of the loadcell is measured using a precision DC ratio meter calibrated by the National Physical Laboratory. We have three rigs for forces from 0.1N to 10kN (10g to 1 tonne). We have weights available from 1g to 20kg with a total weight in excess of 1 tonne. 1g equates to a force of approximately 0.01N.

Transfer Calibration Rigs

Transfer calibration rigs apply forces using hydraulic rams. The force is measured using an accurate reference loadcell. The outputs of both loadcells are measured using precision DC ratio meters calibrated by the National Physical Laboratory.

  • Rig A - Maximum force of 80kN (8 tonnef) in compression.
  • Rig B - Maximum force of 800kN (80 tonnef) in compression and tension.
  • Rig C - Maximum force of 1000kN (100 tonnef) in compression and tension. Maximum force of 2000kN (200 tonnef) in compression only.
  • Rig D - Maximum force of 100kN (10 tonnef) in compression and tension.
